Landfall in New Zealand
From Minerva Reef we set off south on the last passage of the season, to New Zealand. In the last days of a long passage, it’s just us and the endless seas.
After six nights and some very mixed conditions, we made landfall in New Zealand on the 5th of November, arriving at Marsden Cove. Scout had arrived in the country that would be her home for the next six months.
And with that, season three was a wrap. In 381 days, we sailed 11,000 nautical miles, all the way from Cartagena, Colombia, to Whangārei, New Zealand. That took us across the entire Pacific Ocean, via the San Blas, the Panama Canal, the Galápagos, the Marquesas, the Tuamotus, the Society Islands, the Cook Islands, Samoa and Tonga.
There was one last trip for Scout this year. The mighty trailer at Marsden Cove Marina hauled her out of the water and onto the hard, where she’ll spend the southern summer resting and getting some well-earned repairs. Eleven thousand miles is a lot to ask of any boat, and our bimini did meet its end in a squall along the way.
